AMA Releases Competitive Healthcare Study
November 21, 2001 -- The American Medical Association released today a comprehensive study on competition in the Health Care Industry. The study, entitled “Competition in Health Insurance: A Comprehensive Study of US Markets,” is significant in its detail and depth and addresses the growing trend of consolidation in major markets throughout the country. The Study also identifies major HMO providers and the percentages of penetration in the various markets. A discussion of economic issues involved with the monopsony power of insurance companies is provided. Copies of the full report are available from the American Medical Association. This report is a must read for anyone involved in health care issues.
