November 30th, 2003 - California Medical Association Honors Archie Lamb

Palm Springs, CA----The California Medical Association  recently honored Birmingham, Alabama attorney Archie Lamb with the presentation of the first ever California Medical Association’s President’s Award.   The Award, presented at the Association’s annual leadership meeting in Palm Springs, recognized Mr. Lamb for his vision, leadership and tireless efforts on behalf of California physicians in the Associations landmark litigation against the managed care industry.  CEO Jack Lewin noted that it was appropriate for Mr. Lamb to receive the first award to be so presented due to the unprecedented nature of the Associations successful legal battle against the nation’s largest for profit managed care companies.   In response, Mr. Lamb expressed his gratitude and noted “What most people forget is that four years ago, the managed care plans attacked any doctor who spoke out.  The courage of the CMA to step forward to protect the interest of all doctors by putting their name on the lawsuit was THE single most important development in the RICO lawsuit and without that courage we would not have been able to achieve these great results and benefits for all doctors.”   The litigation continues in the federal district court for the Southern District of Florida against eight remaining for profit defendants as well as the nation’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans.
